Xiveer (pronounced Zai-Veer or Zih-Veer) Severis is a character from The Severis Tales.

Xiveer is a core character in the series. In most Severis-focused stories, he is often central to the story or a side-character.

Xiveer is one of the harder names to pronounce in The Severis Tales. The name is pronounced Zai-Veer or Zih-Veer.

He is well aware his name is difficult to pronounce when his family all have more decent-sounding names; for that, he gets annoyed when someone pronounces his name wrong. It's a reflex action that he cannot shift, becoming irritated when the person is trying their best.

Xiveer was born in the small town of Peyton Sound, in the maritime county of Providence Bay in Caldore. He grew up with his best friend then and today, his next door neighbour and farmer, Franklin “Jok” Ferguson.

Well-educated in economics, he left town to pursue a job that would give him excitement and adventure, and joined the Traveling Merchants Guild that took him all across Caldore. During this time, he was reunited with Franklin, who was in the same line of work. He introduced Xiveer to Leena Rosewater.

After marrying Leena (another fellow Travelling Merchant from North Fairbanks, Yorkland County) in 1084, at the very young age of twenty-one, he settled down in Barlett, Marius County. Using their knowledge and skills, they bought the old general store on Ash Street from Mr. Garber. They renamed the store Severis General Goods and continue to run it this day.

The next year, in 1085, he became a father as Leena gave birth Larrynton “Larry” Severis, with the birth name of Arendor. In the year 1095, he born a second son, Michale “Mike” Severis.

Xiveer is a half-dragon (that is, half-elf, half-dragon). He is rather tall and has short, black hair. Like some half-dragons, he has some green scaling around his face and neck and arms. He also has a set of horns, although the direction they grew makes it very difficult for him to wear hats. While working in the shop, he wears a brown overcoat, sometimes accompanying the attire with a tie. At other times, he sticks to casual clothing. He has brown eyes.

Xiveer does not have wings or a tail, as is the case with most half-dragons.

Xiveer is fond of his tobacco pipe. He tends to smoke in private, and away from customers and perishable foods. He also smokes at home.

With is best friend, Franklin, Xiveer often gets into trouble or predicaments that cause Leena unending suffering and occasional cloudy thoughts of regret. He is usually at the mercy of Mila Daruginna, who thinks of him as a right idiot.

For some reason, Xiveer will go at lengths to perform unusual tasks, or use unorthodox means to accomplish a task deemed trivial. He often unintentionally makes a fool of himself, often to Leena's disbelief, and he will sometimes have to go out of his way to make up for something he has done, for fear she would leave him.

Leena Severis is Xiveer's long-suffering wife. Although she does sometimes wonder what caused her to marry him in the first place, she does love him, and she will do what it takes to keep him and her family from falling apart.

Although a friend, Mila Daruginna does think of him as annoying or intentionally obtuse.

His relationship with his competitor and semi-arch-nemesis, Brackneed Vendyor, is complex. Unlike Leena, he does not have irrational hatred of the man, but he does find him often quite annoying and rude. Xiveer, however, will help out a fellow business owner, and has helped him out from time to time.

• At some point in 1096, Xiveer was nearly killed by then-ganger Jergen Pret while stopping in Rale County, but was saved by Maven Kalflar, who was Mila's long lost and best friend, although they did not know each others past at the time. They reunited in 1104 at Mila's pub, where she discovered Maven's connection between her and Xiveer.
